I hope everyone has had a good snow week! For me, this week has been dedicated to refining my topics of interest and reflecting on what I want the purpose of my honors inquiry to be. While debating what I wanted to research, I came to a general topic which multiple subtopics can all relate to, being, how history can be used to further future designs. This led me to a few questions: How has current architectural practice simplified, commercialized, and misunderstood early modernist ideals? What led this movement away from its true purpose and how can we recenter it? What could unsuccessful buildings from the past teach us about current architecture? The construction of temporary buildings for World’s Fairs have drastically furthered our architectural knowledge, how can we re-implement temporary construction into modern architecture?
Chapter three of our textbook states “The practical man is the adventurer, the investigator, the believer in research, the man who refuses to believe that perfection has been achieved.” My goal through this inquiry is to always dive deeper into a topic and further all of our knowledge on the subject. That being said, if anyone has suggestions on how to further any of these questions let me know.
