This week has been a hectic week in studio so my time to research has been minimal, but important nonetheless. One prompt we were advised to do was to find “topic words” which would simplify our research subjects down and notate the difference between Google versus Google Scholar’s results. After inputting the keyword “modernism” into each search engine, the difference was drastic. While Google gave me definitions of modernism and photos of midcentury modern spaces, Google Scholar gave me books which analyze modernism and criticize the relationship between modernism and modernity. This study taught me that Google is a good search engine for words, while Google Scholar is a better search engine for research analysis.

Hi Lizzie.
I think you will find that a good many folks have started to think about some of your ideas — this is not a bad thing! Instead, looking carefullly at their work will help you structure your question more specifically. I also think a chat with Dr. Goodstein would be very helpful. I am very curious about your ideas around world’s fairs as I grew up in Knoxville and watched how the much-maligned site and buildings were addressed – especially with regards to the lack of sustainability, energy consumption, no clear use after the event, and so on. I imagine that the poor economic outcomes of these fairs are critical context..
I look forwared to the further development of your ideas.LikeLike
